Des Moines' Downtown Development is Booming

Des Moines' downtown development is booming according to a recent article in the Business Record written by reporter Megan VerHelst. Megan highlighted 16 projects totalling more than $550 million in costs that are planned to be completed soon. These 16 projects didn't include some other projects in the works, like the new Kum & Go headquarters, the downtown Hy-Vee, the proposed convention center hotel and oithers.

To help visualize all that is happening downtown, the folks at the Business Record used Google's Maps Engine to plot the projects on a map. The result is pretty cool!

There are tools that allow you to zoom in or out and click on each project to get information about it. Their goal is to continually update the map with new projects and provide updates about existing downtown projects as they happen.

They would like to know if they missed anything. Let Chris Conetzkey at the Business Record know about projects that are not shown.
